An Update on our Wedding

We are cancelling our wedding on August 29th. Potential postponement options are being investigated, but please cancel your existing flights / lodging / etc.

We are heartbroken that we won’t be able to have the celebration we had envisioned with all you wonderful people, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. We know a lot of you worked very hard to schedule your plans/lives around our wedding this summer.

We don’t know what the future holds, so unfortunately right now we don’t have many answers about a potential plan B. What we do know is that we love you all, and look forward to seeing your smiling faces at some point in the future.

Stay safe,

Dan & Kate

Welcome to our Wedding

Hello! You’ve come to the right place! At least, if you were looking for our wedding website then you’re in the right place. I suppose it’s possible you came here on accident. If that’s the case then no hard feelings, feel free to move along. We won’t take it personally!

On this site, you’ll find all of the info you’ll need (and probably some you don’t) for the lead up to — as well as what to do on — the big day. If you ever have any questions you can always contact us by phone or email, or use the contact form at the bottom of this page.

We’re very excited to get married, but we’re even more excited for you to join us in the celebration! It means so much for us to be surrounded by the people we love on the day we start our journey down the road of life together. We can’t wait to see you. Lots of love,

-Dan & Kate

How it began

Dan

A boy with his head in the stars.

Kate

A girl with the soul of an old lady.

First Meeting

October 15th, 2015

Kate had been working at Pixar for several years before Dan started there in March of 2015. They both worked together for several months and had many mutual friends but it wasn’t until October that they first officially met, at the wedding of their friends / coworkers Terry and Bri.

First Date

October 13, 2016

Kate ran into Dan on campus and, knowing he was from Portland, asked Dan for recommendations for her upcoming PDX trip. They exchanged numbers, got to texting, and eventually Dan asked Kate to accompany him to a concert at the California Academy of Sciences. Little did he know it was the day before Kate’s birthday! Being a couple of cool cucumbers and playing things by ear, neither of them knew whether or not to call it a date at the time, but they couldn’t deny that sparks were flying!

Moving In

October 2017

Kate moved into Dan’s North Berkeley apartment, and the two enjoyed walks to what are still their favorite brunch, burrito, and sushi joints often. The next summer, they moved into their current apartment in Oakland, and started building a home that felt like their own.

The Proposal

May 29, 2019

When Dan and Kate were on vacation in Greece, Dan secretly pocketed a stone from their favorite beach. Later, he carved a channel into said stone and set the engagement ring inside. He was inspired by Kate’s favorite animal, the humble penguin, and their practice of presenting pebbles as gifts to their mates, with whom they bond for life. When Dan proposed, Kate was so surprised that at first she thought he was pranking her! After he assured her this was for real, she enthusiastically replied, “Yes!”

Marriage

August 29th, 2020

With Dan being a Portland native and Kate’s love for the city, they both knew right away that it was their first choice as a location for their wedding.

We won’t reveal too many details before the big day but spoiler alert: It’s gonna be a blast!

Wedding Events

The wedding ceremony and reception will be held at separate locations. A shuttle service will be provided from the hotel to the ceremony location, and from the ceremony location to the reception location. A more specific timeline of events will be posted here when we get closer to the big day.

*NOTE*: Although we love your little ones, we have decided to make our wedding an adults-only celebration. We respectfully ask that our guests with children please keep this consideration in mind when making plans around travel and childcare.

Registry

We already have most of the stuff we need to build a home. We’re more into experiences, anyway.

Instead of buying us a kitchen gadget (Dan already has too many of these), we would love if you’d consider clicking the button below to contribute towards our honeymoon in Scotland and Spain!:

Portland Guide

We’re so excited you’re going to make the trip to one of our favorite cities! Dan is especially pumped for you to visit his hometown, so much so that he made a whole guide to make your journey as fun as possible! So if you’re looking for some more info / recommendations for your trip to Stumptown, click the button below to go to his guide!

And if you’re already local to Portland, feel free to let Dan know if there’s anything he should add.
